Can’t Help Falling in Love

April 7, 2010

Greetings everyone!

Wow! What an incredibly powerful weekend! We began with a moving Good Friday service, then held energetic Easter Sunday celebrations, and concluded with a enriching time of fun and fellowship hosted by Ed and Christina Chen. There is something special about Canaan! Really!

I admit that I started off the weekend feeling a bit apprehensive. Combined services between different language groups are less than satisfying in many cases. But the gifted worship leaders at Canaan really set the tone – which continued into Easter service. I continue to be amazed at the talent that God has given our church.

At the end of Easter Sunday, this Elvis Presley song started to play in my mind:

I think I am falling in love with Canaan!

Well… it may be just an infatuation, but I truly believe that Canaan’s English ministry has a very healthy “spiritual DNA.” Most of  the right ingredients are here. We only need a little tweaking here and there. Add a greater hunger for God’s purpose and we’ll be well on our way to reachng our potential!

It may also be spring fever –  what better season is there than spring to fall in love?

Spring is also a good time for Christians to prepare for the summer (or Pentecost Season or Ordinary Time, according to the traditional Church calendar). After all, summer is a season for tending to the church’s work in the world. Mission trips, vacation bible school, special programs for returning college students, retreats for singles and young couples, etc., usually happen over the summer. So sign up now and help our church to reach out to our community and our world for Christ! Pray for our leaders as we plan and organize the special activities.

Some of you asked about the book I mentioned in my message. It was written by my friend. James Choung, the new director of Asian American Ministries at Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. It’s called True Story: A Christianity Worth Believing In (InterVarsity Press, 2008) It is a good book to read if you are thinking about sharing the gospel with your friends.

Also, this Sunday, I will begin the Spiritual Renewal message series with “The Brett Favre Syndrome.” I’ll bet you’re wondering what that’s all about – come and see!

Finally, please pray for and support VBS! I’m helping to organize a “parenting workshop” series that will accompany the children’s program. Needless to say, this (along with other activities we are planning for young adults) excites me greatly!

Have a great remainder of the week! See you Sunday!

May the joy of Easter Season fill you up each day!
