Restoring balance to restoring balance

May 27, 2011

Dear Canaan EMers and friends,

Apologies for sending so many updates these past couple of days. But the following are important:

First, here is a Service Mission report by Crystal Chen Ling:

On Sat. May 21, 13 of us from the English Ministry went to CityTeam San Francisco to serve the poor. Among us, there were 3 children (Zachery 12, Faith 10 and Sarah 8). Our responsibilities included serving food, sorting clothes and washing feet. I was especially impressed with our children who served without any complaints and did a great job. Sarah and Faith said that they would like to go back every week. Zachery got to talk to some people who were waiting for foot washing. Without any doubts, this service project had an impact on each person who served there that day. Personally, it reminded me why I love doing mission projects; they draw me closer to Jesus. Matthew 25:42-46 instructs us that when we serve the least of all, we are serving Jesus.

Second, I want to apologize for saying something in yesterday’s weekly newsletter that was not accurate. In that newsletter (and blog), I said that Children’s Ministry was serviced mostly by English ministry people. Well, I took a closer look at the list of recent volunteers for Children’s Sunday school and worship. It turns out that the majority are not English ministry people! That’s good news because it is another way that God is using all of Canaan to help all of us find greater balance in our walk with Christ. So even though I still believe that we still need to attend more to our Christian growth, at least there is indication that our Taiwanese and Mandarin ministry brothers and sisters are stepping in to support our Children’s Ministry and, therefore, giving our English Ministry leaders more opportunity to find balance! Thank you!

Third, I will sign up some of you to help with worship (as a reader or greeter) at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/english9. But don’t worry, if you are not able to come that Sunday or are not able to read or greet, simply opt out, exchange, or change the date on your own. This will help our worship arts team spend less time recruiting volunteers. Of course, feel free to sign up on your own and beat us to the punch! 🙂

Have a great weekend – see you on Sunday!
