Dear Canaan EM’ers and friends,
Tomorrow is Epiphany [koine Greek: ἐπιφάνεια, “manifestation”, “striking appearance”]! According to Wikipedia, Epiphany “is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God the Son as a human being in Jesus Christ.” Though Christ was born in ignobility, his light cannot remain hidden. Indeed, the story of the magi (the three wise men from the East) is significant because it shows that God’s salvation in Christ is revealed to Gentiles as well as Jews. Thus, for seven weeks after the twelfth day of Christmas, Christians celebrate his revelation to the world.
This is a good time for us to reflect on how we can go public with our faith in 2012. Could you think of 12 activities you can do to reveal Jesus to your family. friends, and community (one for each month)? I’m sure this exercise will help you grow your faith!
Also, our very own Becky Chiang, who serves with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Greek Ministries at UC Berkeley, will speak during joint H2O this Sunday. After worship service and refreshment break, come to Worship Hall 3 (second floor) to hear and meet her!
So come to church this Sunday! Let’s “Walk Like Disciples” at Canaan!

Sign up to help with worship service!
- We apologize for the cold worship and fellowship experiences you may have experienced the past few weeks. We have had some problems turning on the heater on the second floor and the heating unit for the fellowship hall is broken. This Sunday, the worship climate will be warmer – though not as warm as the welcome you’ll receive!
- We are looking for volunteers to lead worship, donate snacks, and clean up after refreshment break. If you wish, you can receive a tax receipt for your snack and refreshment donation. Follow the links on our webpage (canaanem.org) or click this link: http://bit.ly/x8PImI
- Thanks to Ethan Lee for helping to remove the Christmas tree ornaments on Tuesday. We still need help to store the Christmas tree.
