Greetings Canaan English Ministry Adults!
I’m glad that so many of us had such a great time at our annual church Sports Day/Picnic/BBQ! Many thanks to Deacon James Chang and others who helped to organize, coordinate, and lead on Saturday!
I have four quick announcements:
1. At Canaan (as with most Asian American churches), eating together after worship is a form of fellowship and community building. It is an expression of our love for one another which is rooted in both Scripture (Acts 2:42) and our Asian heritage. In fact, Paul chastises the Corinthian believers for eating privately and not together (see 1 Corinthians 7:17-22, 33-34)!
That is why eating together and serving one another is such an important gesture of unity in Christ! In light of this, there is a great opportunity for our English Ministry adults to share our love for all the brothers and sisters at Canaan by serving lunch on Sundays in September. Usually when we are tasked to serve lunch, it is our married couples who take the lead. Our youth also do a great job of serving every January. So this time, I hope that our young adults will be present. Let’s make this a “September to Remember”!

Sign up quickly because the slots are filling up fast! If you have any questions, please contact Deacon James Chang at this link!
2. Catherine Wong has started an email discussion list and invites more of us to join. The conversations have been fun and enlightening as list members share their responses to her Question of the Day. Check it out! You’ll learn something interesting about the brothers and sisters in our church! Send Catherine an email at this link and ask her to put you on the distribution list! Thanks Catherine for helping us to build community!
3. This Sunday, during Second Hour, we’ll have a Small Group Kick-Off. Small groups will meet and discuss some hopes for the upcoming year. If you are not part of one of our small groups, this will be an opportunity to join. Also, if you’d like to form a new small group, let me know by Thursday so that we can provide a space for your group to meet.
4. Anyone who would like to join Canaan as a member by baptism, confirmation, or membership transfer should let me know ASAP. I’d like you to join a “Canaan Basics Seminar” on Saturday, September 7 (9 am – 1 pm) in the Conference Room 102. This seminar will introduce you to the basics of Canaan’s beliefs. organization, and membership responsibilities. The seminar is open to anyone – not just applicants for membership. So please let me know by the end of this week if you are interested in membership or would like to join the seminar!
Have a great week everyone! See you Sunday as we start a new sermon series on “Joseph and his Messed Up Relationships”!
