Greetings Canaan English Ministry members and friends!
Thank you all for wearing red last Sunday to celebrate Pentecost – not Santa Claus, even though they sort of rhyme 🙂 I’m still “red”-faced for forgetting to wear red myself! But wasn’t it wonderful to hear from Shally and Crystal about their experiences of God?
So now that we’ve discussed the spiritual gifts in Romans 12, let’s worship God by offering ourselves as living sacrifices. In other words, it’s time for many of us to “redeem” our spiritual gifts! God gave them to us, let us use them for his purpose of building up our church!
Here are some areas where you can immediately redeem your spiritual gifts:
1. Children’s Ministry – Speakers, teachers, assistants are needed for our 10 am Children’s worship every Sunday. Contact Shirley Tai at firstname.lastname@example.org Also at least 8 more volunteers are needed for VBS this summer. Please sign up at VBS.ecanaan.org
2. Youth Ministry – Anyone who cares our youth and wants to encourage them to thrive and grow spiritually are invited to apply to be a youth counselor. Contact Chris Liu [email Chris]
3. Missions Fund-raiser on June 21. We are looking for volunteers to help set up and staff three booths. Contact William Effendy [email William]
4. Leaders! Deacons, elders, small groups, fellowships, Sunday worship, events, etc.
5. Artists and designers! For all our communication needs.
6. And many more…
Some of us are doing too much. Please take a break! But for everyone else, please redeem the gifts that God gave you at Canaan! As you do so, you’ll discover a desire to see God’s eternal purpose fulfilled in you and at Canaan!
Now for a few friendly reminders about this weekend:

This year’s accommodations will be much better than last year’s. We’ll have units available for families with babies and young children. The walking distance between buildings will be much shorter. ABOUT THE ENGLISH ADULT/YOUTH TRACKS
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness! – Jesus (Matthew 25:23)
Canaan’s English and Youth Ministries are emphasizing the importance of “stepping up” our service to the Lord and building English Ministries 2.0. We want our English ministries to be an upgrade over tired and failed English ministries. It takes work and effort!
But we can get so caught up with serving that we forget how to invest energy in the areas that allow us to bear better quality fruit for God. Sometimes, we also serve out of fear, habit, and obligation rather than hope and joy. Instead of flourishing, we often wind up burying our spiritual gifts.
In this year’s English and Youth retreat tracks, we want to encourage our attendees to “steward” our spiritual gifts for the better yield. We will hear and reflect on a series of messages that will equip us to use wisdom in our service as well as inspire us to serve with joyfulness.
Becky Chiang-Luoh is a Bay Area native and grew up attending Canaan as a youth. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in Communications, she heard God’s call to go into ministry and currently serves with InterVarsity/USA at Cal ministering to fraternity and sorority students. Becky loves fun games, hosting friends at home with her husband David, drinking coffee, and all things design related.
Have a great weekend! See you at Sunday worship!
