Many parts form one body

many parts.jpeg

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body — whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. – 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NIV)

January 15, 2016

Dear Canaan EM members and friends,

Our beginning of the year leaders’ micro-retreat took place last Saturday. As usual, I felt tired afterwards. But I’m also excited about what God will “cook up” this year for us.

Every year, God brings new people from different life stages into our leadership and church. Every year, we are challenged to form one body. Paul knew. 2000 years ago, he encouraged the diverse Corinthian believers to embrace their unity in Christ without rejecting their diversity.

May 2016 be the year our English Ministry bears the fruit of unity – what Paul calls the “more excellent way” – love. May God be our first love. May we all first love!

See you Sunday!

Tim Tseng

Stand in the gap for refugees:

Thanks to everyone who supported our efforts to bring attention to the Syrian Refugee Crisis last Sunday!

Here’s how…
1. Make a Refugee Responder pledge through World Vision. Refugee Responder is not a set amount per month, that amount can be determined by you. Pick up a pledge folder, tear off the completed perforated response card, and give the card to Pastor Tim or William Effendy (or place in offering basket).
2. Volunteer to help refugees in Silicon Vally through International Rescue Committee. Sign up at

Pastor Tim will lead a workshop for all adults called “The Church’s Place in the World.” We’ll talk about how we can experience fulfillment and joy while remaining obedient in our service to God and his world.

God is raising up leaders for Asian American churches! Through the Healthy Church Leaders Initiative, a small group of men and women will spend next Saturday at Canaan getting equipped to serve! Contact Pastor Tim if you’d like to help out or are interested [email].

Join a guitar workshop next Sunday (second hour, worship hall 1) sponsored by our Praise Band leaders. Maybe you can join our Praise Band or even become a Praise Band leader! Contact Mike Ling at this [email].

This is the last weekend to decide whether we will host an outreach party on Feb. 7. We need help to set up the second floor for viewing, invite guests, provide food, host activities and games, and clean up. Please Pastor Tim know if you are interested [email].
