Sermon summary: Light and My Salvation (Feb. 21, 2016)

Light and My Salvation (Psalm 27)
by Pastor Chris Liu

Main Point: When we are in the midst of difficult times in our lives, there are four things we can do to help us get through those tough situations.

  1. Remember God’s past faithfulness (vv.1-3).
For David, he was reminded of God’s faithfulness when he battled the giant Goliath. When everyone doubted him, he put his faith in God and God gave him the ability to defeat Goliath.

For us, we can look back at a time when God showed up in our difficult situation and see how He worked that situation out for good and how God has grown and changed us in that process.

  2. Hold on to the characteristics of God (vv.4-6).
For David, his desire was to be close to God in His temple. He knew that his security and his strength was in his relationship with God.

For us, we should spend time with God and grow in our relationship with Him. As we do so, we can know Him better. That way, we can hold on to the character of who God is. Remember that He is good, holy, perfect, sovereign, etc…

Also, I hope that we would be a place, a church, that is supporting one another through difficult times.

  3. Pray honestly (vv.7-12).
For David, we see how honest and bold he was in his prayer to God. Here in Psalm 27 and other Psalms, we see how David cries out to God and even complains to Him.

For us, we should also pray with honesty and boldness. Don’t be afraid to offend God with your prayers. It’s okay to be angry and upset and to share your frustrations and confusion with Him. God desires for us to come before Him with that type of honesty.

  4. Wait confidently in the Lord (vv.13-14).
For David, he closes this Psalm by waiting confidently in the Lord. He trusts in who God is and that God will work all things out for good.

For us, as hard as it may be, we too need to be patient in the difficult times and wait confidently in Him. Trust that God is in control and that He is good.
